| About | The Arizona Telemedicine Program is a multidisciplinary clinical program of The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. The program was created in 1996 at the initiation of the Arizona legislature to establish pilot projects demonstrating the efficacy of telemedicine in delivering better health care to Arizona's medically underserved rural areas.
Specifically, the Arizona legislature funded an eight site Arizona Rural Telemedicine Network as a general appropriation to The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center's operating budget. The Arizona legislature defines telemedicine as the use of computers, video imaging, fiber optics and telecommunications for diagnosis and treatment of persons in rural, geographically isolated communities and state institutions. The program's goals are to demonstrate how telemedicine can improve rural health care in Arizona, particularly with the rising costs of health care leading to closure of critically needed hospitals and clinics in rural Arizona communities, and to offer a cost-effective alternative to expensive transportation and time delays for outside referrals from Arizona Department of Corrections institutions. |

Mental Health Film Series - Frames of Mind (Kindly see the meeting's Web pages.) Event sponsored by: University of British Columbia [UBC], Department of Psychiatry September 21, 2011
"The Devil and Daniel Johnston" (2005, directed by Jeff Feuerzeig) An exemplar of brilliance and madness going hand in hand, Johnston (who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder) has had a life marked by wild fluctuations, numerous downward spirals, and periodic respites from his severe mental illness. This long-in-the-making The Devil and Daniel Johnston is an illuminating chronicle of Johnston's origins, rise to fame, disastrous breakdowns, paranoid delusions, painful redemption, and eventual elevation to unlikely living-legend status. The film artfully melds recent footage, vintage performances, home movies, and dozens of recorded audiotapes from Johnston's life. Testimony from supportive friends and a deeply committed family adds a rich layer to Johnston's personal history, but his poetic songs tell their own passionate, haunting, and truly unforgettable story. Now in his early 50s, Johnston has recorded over 20 full-length albums and grown into a prolific and internationally acclaimed visual artist. Discussants:

Our early relationships and experiences shape all aspects of physical and mental health, and are pivotal to who we become and how we function throughout life. We naturally strive forward. The behaviour of young children is meaningful, and understanding this concept is vital for all involved with children. This conference will stimulate dialogue, reflection, a deeper understanding of a child’s total development as rooted in their earliest relationships, and may revolutionize our approaches and practices with young children, their families, and their communities. Child and Youth Mental Health Matters (You can refer to the meeting's Web pages.) Event sponsor: University of British Columbia [UBC], Interprofessional Continuing Education [IPCE] May 6-8, 2012
This meeting combines three conferences:
This conference brings together an interdisciplinary group of professionals working in the field of mental health with young people and parents and other stakeholders to share knowledge and experiences related to child and youth mental health. This first ever gathering of this nature will provide a forum for focusing on the needs of young people and families as they struggle with issues related to mental health concerns across the generations. The overall goal of the concurrent conferences is help us develop a common language and understanding of the needs of young people and families. By bringing together people from diverse backgrounds we hope to enrich our collective knowledge of mental health strategies, best practices and the latest research in order to improve outcomes for young people and families. Our goal is to create at the conference a community of practice that spans the three themes where we can each share our knowledge and support while we discuss areas of mutual interest and concern. Deadline for abstracts or proposals: 9/26/2011. Event Contact:
