• Raise public awareness
• Create support groups for Alzheimer's Disease [AD] caregivers
• Open a day center for AD patients
• Provide monthly day outings for AD patients and their carers
• Hold fund-raising events

The Association is organised on a regional basis and along the lines of specialties within the social work profession. There are eight regional branches and about 20 special interest groups covering most areas of social work activity.

The IASW is an active member of the International Federation of Social Workers, which represents professional social work assocations from over 55 different countries with more than 350,000 social workers in all parts of the world.

• Facilitate communication between clinicians, volunteers, survivors and researchers in all matters relating to suicide and suicidal behaviour
• Promote awareness of the problems of suicide and suicidal behaviour in the general public by holding conferences and workshops and by communication of relevant material through the media
• Ensure that the public are better informed about suicide prevention
• Support and encourage relevant research
• Encourage and support the formation of groups to help those bereaved by suicide
• Make the IAS an all Ireland organisation
