| The British Geriatrics Society is the only professional association, in the United Kingdom, of doctors practising geriatric medicine. The 2000 members worldwide are consultants in geriatric medicine, the psychiatry of old age, public health medicine, general practitioners, and scientists engaged in the research of age-related disease.
It was founded in 1947 for the relief of suffering and distress amongst the aged and infirm by the improvement of standards of medical care for such person, the holding of meetings and the publication and distribution of the results of such research.

| The UK Medical Informatics Society [UKHiS] was formed in 1986 as the British Medical Informatics Society. There are more than 260 members worldwide. The broad objectives of the Society are:
- To promote research and the development of information systems to support patient care
- To promote the application of information technology in medical education and biomedical research
- To assist in the education of Medical Informatics professionals
- To act as an open forum and focal point for professionals from all disciplines and across all sectors
