Course on Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Psychosomatics ( Consult the meeting's Web pages.) Sponsored by: European Psychiatric Association [EPA], (l'Association européenne de psychiatrie) October 20-22, 2011
This course will be given in collaboration with the Evangelische Krankenhaus Königin Elisabeth Herzberge GmbH [KEH]. Consultation-liaison [CL] psychiatry is one of the most interesting fields in psychiatry, a hot spot at the interface of psychological and somatic medicine. To be efficient and successful in this field, the CL psychiatrist has to be knowledgeable and skillful in operating as an outpost of psychiatry in medical-surgical departments with quite different cultures than those accustomed to in psychiatric wards or clinics. He or she has to be prepared to manage difficult team situations, mediating between staff and patients with somato-psychiatric comorbidity, learn to connect immediately with difficult medically ill patients under time constraints, and above all know how to formulate organic differential diagnoses for “abnormal behavior” that has been deemed by medical staff prematurely to be “psychiatric”. This course aims at developing these skills for beginners in CL-psychiatry, as well as providing the possibility of discussing and deepening the experience for seasoned ones. Hence, the program touches upon areas relevant to this field, such as delirium, depression, drug interactions, Dialectical Behavior Therapy [DBT] skills for difficult patients in the general hospital, and many others. | About | The Association for Experiential Education (AEE) is a not-for-profit, international professional organization with roots in adventure education, committed to the development, practice, and evaluation of experiential learning in all settings.
In the early 1970s, a group of educators assembled in Boone, North Carolina, USA to discuss ways in which education could be made more relevant for students. These people knew that the core of learning is greatly enhanced by experiential forms of education. Now, with approximately 2,000 members in over 20 countries, AEE's diverse membership consists of individuals and organizations with affiliations in education, recreation, outdoor adventure programming, mental health, youth service, physical education, management development training, corrections programming for people with disabilities, and environmental education. |
