About The American Counseling Association (ACA) is a partnership of associations representing professional counselors whose mission is to promote public trust and confidence in the counseling profession. Founded in 1952, the American Counseling Association is the world's largest private, not-for-profit organization devoted entirely to the advancement and the growth of professional counselors and the profession of counseling.

Representing nearly 60,000 members, the American Counseling Association provides educational programs, publications, and conferences to expand professional knowledge and expertise; promotes recognition of counselors to the public and the media; and represents members' interest before government bodies at the national level.

By providing leadership training, continuing education opportunities, and advocacy services to its members, ACA helps counseling professionals develop their skills and expand their knowledge base.

ACA has been instrumental in setting professional and ethical standards for the counseling profession. The association has made considerable strides in accreditation, licensure, and national certification. It also represents the interests of the profession before congress and federal agencies.
